PGM & SON: cockroach control extermination removal

Helping residential and commercial properties rid of cockroaches

Cockroaches are notorious for being indestructible. They reproduce at record speed and as such, they can overtake a business facility practically overnight. And, because these insects are so hard to kill, most facilities are simply incapable of providing effective cockroach control.

In addition, and what makes us unique from other pest control companies, is that we offer sanitising and disinfecting services to remove rodent - bird - wildlife urine and droppings to create a disease-free environment for our customers, their families, and their businesses.

Cockroaches

There are two main species of cockroach to be found in the UK. These are the Oriental Cockroach and the German Cockroach. As treatment is very different for either species, correct identification is crucial to eradicating the problem.

Oriental Cockroaches

Habitat

  • Primarily nocturnal

  • Prefers warm environments but can also tolerate colder conditions

  • Forage on a wide range of foods

  • Need access to water

  • Found indoors, underground ducts, drains, refuse tips

  • Does not like extremely dry and hot conditions

Breeding

  • The life cycle is egg – nymph – adult

  • The egg case (ootheca) contains on average 16 eggs and females will have around 5 egg cases

  • Incubation is 6-12 weeks, depending on the conditions

  • Nymphs have 7-10 moults and take around 6-18 months to reach full maturity

  • Adults are darkish brown, living for up to 6 months

  • They have partial wings but are unable to fly

Control Measures

  • Cockroaches are very difficult to eradicate

  • A proactive approach is essential

  • Pest control needs to allow for the length of incubation

  • Use of monitors and site inspection

  • May require more than 1 treatment

  • Will require regular monitoring until control is achieved

German Cockroach

  • The egg case (ootheca) contains on average 30-40 eggs, taking 2-4 weeks to hatch

  • Nymphs have 5-7 moults and take around 2-6 months to reach full maturity

  • They live and feed with adults

  • Adults are small, active and brown-yellow, living for up to 6 months

  • They are winged but do not normally fly

Control Measures

  • May be easier to control than oriental cockroaches

  • A proactive approach is essential

  • Pest control needs to allow for the length of incubation

  • Use of monitors and site inspection

  • May require more than 1 treatment

  • Will require regular monitoring until control is achieved

Both species of cockroach can carry disease organisms, so treatment is crucial. Monitoring traps are great for correctly identifying the correct species and size of infestation. A pre-treatment survey should be carried out before the control program begins.
